Ministries
As part of our church ministry program, Breakwater serves our community and brings people together.
Comfort and Joy
Many of our people are craftsman with wood, quilts and handmade gifts. At Breakwater, we gather all of these handmade treasures for Comfort and Joy ministries. We give away hundreds of blankets, knitted prayer tools and other crafted items that say to our community: We see you and love you. Are you gifted at making things with your hands? That hobby may be the things that can show God’s love to others.
Fellowship
One of the most important things we can do as a community of faith is to gather together and laugh. Fellowship is a crucial aspect of our church because our modern culture is drowning in loneliness. We want people to feel safe gathering in our building and having conversations about walking a life of faith. Our annual fellowship events are Chili Cook Off, BBQ smoker ministry, Football Games (UM vs. Michigan State) Mother/Daughter Banquet, Family Day at the River, Carols by Candlelight, and Monthly Potlucks. We want to continue to gather and enjoy each other in the presence of godly fellowship.
Learning
Breakwater Church of the Nazarene wants to also learn about scripture and life in small group settings. Our Sunday classes delve into specific scriptural themes and scriptures. We also have lunch bunches that discuss the sermon after worship on Sunday mornings. We have other small groups that center around emotionally healthy relationships, financial planning and Old Testament history. We want to be a community continually investigating scripture and life experience to live life fully.
Reaching Out
Our community of faith also want to help people globally and down the street. We
support local missions through our parent denomination, the Church of the Nazarene. Our church has participated in Work and Witness trips, where groups labor for a local church around the globe. We also give to specific disaster relief and take offerings for various ministries.
We also want to impact our community with help. Our love fund has helped families fill their gas tanks, helped with specific bills, help with new babies and we long to have our playground filled with neighborhood children. Our Backpacks of Love ministry just finished its fourth year and we have given away over 800 backs to community children filled with school supplies.
